Canadian Gold Maple Leaf This coin has been marketed as "the international symbol of purity" by the Royal Canadian Mint. Produced since 1979, the Maple Leaf is 24 karats of gold (.9999 fine). They can be easily scratched because of their high purity so care should be used when handling them. The obverse of the Maple Leaf has an image of Queen Elizabeth II. Her name is at the top of the coin and the denomination and issue date are below the image. The reverse has the national symbol of Canada, the Maple Leaf. The name of the country is also on the reverse as well as the amount and purity of the gold in French and English. The Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) was the first mint to commercially make 99.99% pure gold coins. The mint has two locations, Ottawa and Winnipeg. The Canadian government guarantees each coins purity, weight and legal tender value. Since its inception in 1979, the Gold Maple Leaf has been a most popular bullion coin for gold investors worldwide. |
