Australian Gold Nugget First produced in 1986, the Australian Gold Nugget is produced by the Perth Mint in Western Australia. One of the most popular gold coins, the Australian Nugget comes in sizes ranging from 1/20th of an ounce to 1 kilogram. These coins are also sometimes called the Australian Kangaroo. The obverse of the coin has the face of Queen Elizabeth II. The word "AUSTRALIA", the coin's denomination, and her name are all on the top side of the coin. The reverse of the coin has two designs. Up until 1989, the image was that of a gold nugget. Since 1989, the image has been a kangaroo. The Australian Gold Nugget is the only legal tender, 24 karat pure gold bullion coin that limits its mintage and changes its design every year. |
